Several theories have been advanced for this, including the cost of raising a child, the cost of contraceptives and the greater palatability of an abortion through medication rather than surgery. What is your opinion? You are welcome to weigh in on the abortion issue itself and whether or not you think it should remain legal, but in recent years some groups in the US have gotten together on both sides of this divide to attempt to prevent unwanted pregnancies and to encourage alternatives so that this option is used less often. Why do you think people have abortions, and what can be done to discourage women or couples from taking this step? Do you think the abortion rate is likely to rise or fall in the future, in the US, in Slovakia and/or globally?
In approaching the issue of a slight increase of the abortion rate in the U.S., one should firstly consider whether abortions are to be tolerated in our society. We constantly fight over how the country should control abortions and no solution has been found, because of the controversy around the whole topic. I think, that instead of studying the rates of abortions, we should be thinking of making the abortions illegal . I belong to the ones that think that an abortion is simply a cold blooded murder. To clarify, there are several non religious, and still convincing arguments ,that lead me towards this statement.
ReplyDeleteAn abortion is a procedure in which an embryo or fetus is prohibited from developing by artificial means. I argue, that this is next to murder, because from the moment the embryo is formed, a new innocent and unique individual comes into existence. This individual is genetically different from its parents. In other words, the terms, 'zygote', 'fetus', 'infant', 'child', 'adolescent' and 'adult', are all just stages of development and none are less human than the other. Stated differently, abortion is an attack on democracy and its basic right to live, but it also teaches us to escape consequences of our actions without any punishment.
Moreover, we all have the right to pursue happiness and live our lives, why should a child suffer from the punishment of the irresponsibility of his/her mother? Death is not the answer, if only the unborn could at least speak for themselves. Indeed, it is easy to notice, that the ones that are for abortions have already been born.
Furthermore, we should not forget about the way the abortions are done. Experts emphasize, that already after 21 one days, the baby has developed a heartbeat and pain hormones. Therefore it is right to say, that the baby feels pain when being slowly murdered in her mother’s womb. I hope there is no need to describe the dreadful process of abortion, where the baby is slowly sucked out of the womb, by a strong “vacuum cleaner”. It hurts just to imagine the horror, but we must think of it in order to give an end to abortions.
It is worth mentioning the recent studies ,that shows us, that the abortion rates in the U.S have slightly increased. Many try to find reasons for the stop down of the overall decreasing trend since the 1970s. Some say it’s due to the expensive contraceptives, or due to the economic recession that leads women into having the abortion. Although the abortion costs are around 600 dollars, women rather decide to sell their property in order to afford the abortion. What really torments me in the meantime, is that money is to decide about a life of a person (baby). The state should certainly give greater financial aid to mothers, who want to kill their baby, just because they think they cannot afford it. If not, another opportunities like adoption arise.
We live in a world in which ethics and lives of innocent are substituted for money and our comfort. It is difficult to believe that abortions will ever be made illegal, especially in today’s liberal society. But that is the reason why am I expressing my opinion. Remember, “ An embryo is not a potential human, but a human with potential”.
Few theories were mentioned and it seems that all have an impact on the falloff in abortion rate. I basically agree with every theory presented but it is hard to decide which one is the most dominant one. Firstly I do not agree with Vicki Sapora who is talking on behalf of National Abortion Federation. She said that increase of abortions is due to financial difficulties and that during these crude times of crisis women decide rather for an abortion than for a baby since baby is by a simple calculation more expensive. I do not think this has a major impact on the abortion rate. I think women think ahead and the one with the risk of baby use contraception more often.
ReplyDeleteNot a very big surprise for me is that pregnancies in teenage girls stopped its decreasing. It is obvious that there must be a minimum value of pregnancies in teenage girls. We cannot go under some minimum even though the education programs in this area are very progressive and I would say also massive. There would be still some fraction of teenage girls which ignore the educational programs about pregnancy or they simply get pregnant by an accident, for example because of carnal abuse. Hence, I would say that this has major impact on abortion rate and I agree with Mr. Jones that this is cause of the phenomenon.
The use of RU-486 is certainly an issue worth considering but I would say this has not very big impact on abortion, even though it is easier way of abortion. Women are afraid of these pills, since they have side effects and they are dangerous. I think their first priority is not to get pregnant and they focus mostly on that when considering medications.
Lastly I must mention my personal opinion about abortions. I think abortions are bad and they should be allowed only in cases when the woman is under adult age or if there is a significant risk that baby will have some disorder. Furthermore I think that abortion cannot be a substitute for contraception and I think that most people understand the importance of this matter.

Responding to Dominik:
ReplyDeleteYes Dominik I agree with you and I am really shocked why people understand children as a money burden. I cannot believe that they can compare money and children. Although it is crisis and people are short of money, I do not thing this is the place where they should save money and do calculation whether abortion is cheaper than bringing up the child. If pair is short of money they should be careful in their intimate life.
As you may have noticed I do not agree with abortion in the way modern society presents it. I think that the rules are really benevolent and abortions are abused and sometimes very inappropriate. But there are situation which are very unpleasant that must be taken into account, these cases are: sexual violation and high probability of fetus having disorder. What do you think of these cases? I think when one is considering this topic one must think about these particular cases. In these cases abortion may be appropriate solution to tough life experience.
Some people may argue that abortions of pregnancy of damaged fetus are also crime and crime and a murder. When people are rejecting the mother her rights to decide if she wants to carry a damaged fetus are committing even worse crime than the murder of fetus itself. Giving birth to this baby may be a serious threat for him and his whole life may be full of suffering. Is that what we do and want? If someone is suffering from death pain we do nothing. On contrary, we give them so much morphine that they will eventually die or they will become seriously drugged.
But even though I may have sounded like a pro-abortionist in last paragraph it is not true my call is ‘’minimize, minimize and once more minimize the abortion numbers.’’

ReplyDeleteFrom your comment, it didn’t look to me as if you were expressing your opinion, rather than criticizing the fact, that women can decide what to do with their potential future children. You must understand three important facts. Firstly, an embryo cannot be considered a person, who can make decisions based on its thinking and experience. It’s not an independent person, the future is therefore in hands of its mother. Secondly, the embryo is fully dependent on mother and can be considered a part of mother’s body. And each mother can decide what to do with her body whenever she wants. And lastly, you have to understand, that not being born might be better for the child, than being born into a family with no father, no money and no roof over head. Nobody wants to be born into these harsh conditions and spending 600$ on abortion, preventing the kid from living a miserable life might be the best thing you can do for it. Of course there always is adoption, but this is not always the option and what child wants to live in an orphanage?
