Don't know much about (your/our) history

If a member of a majority/more powerful group does something bad to a member of a minority/less powerful group, should such an act be considered as part of a larger historical context? How much of an obligation do members of the historically oppressive group have to know this history?  Are there any parallels here to be drawn between Slovaks and the more powerful groups which have oppressed them?  Or the groups which they have oppressed?

Is reading on digital devices instead of paper making our thinking shallower, or simply making us think differently?  Does how we read affect what we read?  If digital reading is making us less competent readers, what, if anything, should be done about it?

This is the last entry you can comment on for the month of November.

Is there too much tension between those who eat meat and those who do not? Is this partly due to secret guilt on the part of meat eaters?   Did William Sitwell's comments justify his dismissal?  Is vegetarianism here to stay, or even to grow?  (The video connected to this article is also worth watching.)
