There is a lot to comment on in this article, so feel free to skim around and focus on certain parts. Is there something wrong with making dolls that are so realistic, or paying so much for them? Which uses for the dolls are more understandable for you than others? How do you think you would react if a Reborn was put in your arms?
In my opinion it is a bit strange to create dolls which look almost exactly like normal children. It is ok if you would try to test yourself and find out if it is a good idea for you to be a parent and if you could take good care of the baby, but it is a bit sick to have a baby doll instead of a real human baby. It is really weird to buy a baby, when you can create your own one. What is the point of having a fake baby? You cannot raise it, you cannot talk to it and will never grow older.
ReplyDeleteI think I would react normally, if a reborn was put in my arms, and I would behave to it like to a real baby, but I still think it is strange and I would never want to have a baby like that. What is the point of being a parent then? The task of being a parent includes mainly raising the child.
There are some advantages of having a reborn baby, which are for example that you will try how it feels to have a kid and what is it like to be a parent, but it has also some disadvantages. Those are, in my opinion, that you can learn only the physical part of being a parent. You will not learn how to raise it up properly. Basically I think that having this kind of baby is really sick and it is even sicker that there are some people who spend around £11,000 for a reborn baby.
I agree with Barbora, that the whole concept of fake babies is a little weird. Maybe it is because I have never had a doll representing a baby, thing that is much more common now, that it was back when I was a little girl. Last time when I was watching some advertisements about dolls, I was quite surprised. The new baby dolls are much more sophisticated, that I remember. Some of them can not only sleep, laugh and cry, but also drink, pee and much more. I understand, that they want to make it the most realistic as possible, but I would never buy such a doll.
ReplyDeleteHowever, the thing that I found even more weird were the reactions of people to the doll. The makers of the dolls were talking about it as if they were in love. On the other side I was shocked that people reacted in very different manner. Some of them fell in love at first sight, but others had crazy ideas, like pointing a gun at the doll or pulling its leg.
This, I find almost as weird as the concept of fake babies.
I agree with both Janka and Barbora on the opinion of fake babies being weird and strange. It is unnatural to treat a non living thing like it is living. In my opinion, the feeling of a newborn baby in your arms cannot be replaced by a fake baby artificially made. The fake baby doesn’t is not alive, it is just a sophisticated machine that is programmed to do things. The artificial baby doesn’t have a heart, brain or other organs. It cannot think or grow. But most importantly, the doll cannot engage an emotional relationship with a person. The reason why it seems strange to me that some people “fell in love with the baby” is the question of how can someone feel such a strong emotion to something, that isn’t even alive?
ReplyDeleteOn the other hand, a having a baby doll can effectively attempt to replace a real baby in cases in which someone who has lost a child gets a doll to commission in its image. It is spectacular how realistic and true can the fake babies be in today’s modern era. In my opinion the concept of having fake babies is between being fascinating and scary. I don’t think that it is correct to try to replace a living baby by an artificial one. Personally, I would never do that, and defiantly not for £11,000. In case of wanting a baby, but having no chance of getting pregnant I would rather buy a pet. A pet is alive. It grows, thinks, plays and it is likely to engage an emotional relationship with a human. People often feel like the pet is a real part of their family and love them. Again, a pet cannot replace a human, but at least it actually lives.
